LIFE

*Our life is a compendium of many decisions*,the ones we make and those we did not make by ourselves. Small ones and big ones. Eternal ones, generational ones, and temporary ones.

Decisions, indeed, are very powerful. *They are you.* When we look at your life, we should be able, to an extent, to successfully predict the decisions you have made.

As powerful as decisions are, however, they are only the beginning of the journey. You don’t make decisions to be great or exceptional in life and then go to sleep. Greatness does not come as a product of wishing. There is no magic in success.

Once you have decided the outcome you desire, the next step is to find out how to get there. There are many ways to go about this:

1. *Study the lives of others who have achieved similar outcomes.*

Not just their successes, but also their failures. We are a product of both. By studying them, you understand what led to their success, and what to avoid through their failures.

2. *Read books on the outcomes you desire.*

Read extensively. Gather the necessary materials so you can make informed decisions.
For example, if I decide to become a medical doctor, what subjects do I need to take in my O-Levels? What subject combinations and grades are required to gain admission into a medical school? What courses are taught in the university, and how can I prepare for them? What must I do, and what should I avoid? What exams do I need to take, and what scores must I attain to succeed?
People before you have documented their journeys, take advantage of that.

As I said earlier, at one point or another, we all make mistakes. But you don’t have to make the same mistakes others made.
Do not approach your journey with a “do or die” mentality. Other people’s success will never be the cause of your failure. As they say, *the sky is so vast, we can all fly without colliding*.
If you approach life with the mentality of destroying others to build your own, you will definitely fail. You cannot expect to tear others down in order to rise.

3. *Study the Bible.*

It is the manual from our Creator. It will lead and guide you, especially if you have committed your life to Him and are willing to yield to His direction.

Prayer is vital. *Commit your ways into His hands* – Proverbs 3:5–7.
Develop the habit of fellowship with your Maker — Psalm 95:7, Psalm 100:3.

I have heard, and I believe, that there is nothing in this present world that you cannot find a biblical example of. Search the Bible. Others have gone through what you’re going through or what you will go through. There, you’ll see the results of their choices, and it will prompt meaningful discussions with God:

Do you want their results? Or do you want to avoid their mistakes?
God, the Maker, will direct and guide you.

Search the Bible, you will be surprised how many examples it contains of the outcomes you desire.
Knowing the pathway helps you stay focused. You’ll know where to go and where not to go, what to do and what to avoid.

You have a vision ahead of you, *and you will not be distracted.*

*It is well with you.*

DECISIONS – PART 2

Seeing that decisions sum up the totality of your life, then we need to know what a decision really is.
A decision, according to the dictionary, is:

  1. The act of deciding
  2. A choice or judgment
  3. Firmness of conviction, etc.

From the above, decision means looking at the available options and choosing based on your conviction, meaning you must have considered the options and the resultant effect of each option before deciding on which one suits the outcome you desire.

However, a lot of people go through life without knowing or understanding that their life is a result of their decisions. My friends, not making decisions is sometimes worse than making a wrong decision because there is no vacuum in life. Someone or something somewhere is making decisions for you if you refuse to make any. It is like leaving your life to chance, and nobody can be blamed for the result except you. No vacuum in life means nothing happens in isolation. Everything is interconnected. There are external factors that have effects on other things. So if you will not consciously make informed decisions, you can be sure an external force will make one for you, and there is nothing you can do about the outcome.

Every day we make decisions:

  1. Small or sometimes insignificant decisions.
Note that what you call insignificant can have a very significant outcome or effect after many of such decisions. For example, what clothes you wear when going out. It may not really affect you whether you put on a type of clothing or not, but imagine going for an interview for a job course and you dressed shabbily. Of course, in the long run, it will have an effect on the outcome of the interview. Your dressing gives an impression in the mind of the interviewer and affects the decision whether to give you the job or not. You are bidding for a project, and you have the academic knowledge and may even have experience, but you dress anyhow, putting on slippers and looking unkempt, believing that your qualification and experience are all that matter. However, what they can see is an irresponsible person who will likely embezzle the funds or even produce substandard outcomes.

Even in the issue of the food that you eat, it is important to make the right decision, even though food can be said to be insignificant. But after some time, the effect of those small decisions will tell on your health and may likely destroy your life completely.
What about the decision on people you associate with? I just want to hang out with my mates and colleagues, but one such outing may lead you to a place of no return and a miserable life.

  1. Big decisions, life-changing decisions.
Most people actually take time when making these decisions, but sometimes they do not have the knowledge of all the outcomes that come with the available options. Some even become so careless as to say, “We will cross the bridge when we get there.” What is the assurance that there will be a bridge, and what is the state of that bridge? Some so-called decisions have become generational issues. A person or some people make decisions, and it continues to have an effect on generations yet unborn, irrespective of whether they are in agreement or not.

A lot of people, especially in our clime, are under generational hardship due to the decisions their forefathers made when they were not even born yet, their parents were not even there. We spend so much time and energy breaking such that we are also creating generational effects by the decisions we are making now. We are quick to judge our forefathers for joining forces with darkness to bring relief to their lives and entering into covenants which become binding on generations yet unborn, who have to suffer for them.

But you are also making the same decisions now that will bring untold hardship on your unborn children. We join groups, clubs, and enter into relationships. You, my friend, you are going all over looking for solutions to generational curses and covenants, while in actual fact you are creating another one, or recycling the old one by changing the package.

When you hear “new and improved product”, it’s likely the package that is changed and not the content inside. Sometimes the content is even increased. My friend, please make informed decisions and do not continue to recycle generational curses and covenants. You graduated from Harvard or any other prestigious institution yet cannot understand that the devil has repackaged and improved on his modus operandi, then you are unlearned. Stop and think, my friend.

  1. Eternal Decisions.
There are some decisions whose outcomes even follow you to the great beyond. Eternity means uncountable existence without end, infinite time. Heaven and hell are real. Some decisions you make here and now can determine where you will spend your eternity.

Decisions Part 1

No one size fits all.
The above is often said by all, but the understanding is not fully reflected by all.
There are processes and procedures that, if one obeys or indeed follows, can lead to a particular end; however, if another follows the same, the outcome becomes different.
There are a lot of things that can affect the outcome even though the same process is followed.
Identical twins carried by the same womb and fed the same do not often produce the same result.
When God was leading the children of Israel from Egypt to the promised land, they had to pass through two bodies of water. The Creator of heaven and earth does not use the same form or model to achieve the same result. In the process of creating a passage in the Red Sea, He sent the wind. Exodus 14:21-22. For the River Jordan, He instructed that the feet of the priests that bear the ark be dipped in the brim of the water. Joshua 3:15-16.
It is important to know that a variety of things affect outcomes. The same process does not often produce the same outcome.
Decisions play a major role in outcomes. Today’s decisions are tomorrow’s outcome. Most times when we see a successful person, we desire such success; however, what is most important is knowing the sort of sessions that produce such outcomes. God has given us the gift of decision-making. We do not have a say in the outcome. You can only make decisions. It is very important to use every available means to make the correct decision that will give us the desired outcome.
You see a successful marriage, and you want such; then do all in your ability to make the necessary decisions to achieve such an outcome. When you meet people who have succeeded in the area that is appealing to you, strive to know from them how they arrived at this point. Know that there are also scars they have had to endure to get to this place. What you see, and I dare say the whole world sees, are the crowns and the stars, but there are scars too.
Determine today that you will pay more attention to your decisions because they will determine your outcome.
